Gastronomic Tourism – some figures for Emilia-Romagna

Emilia-Romagna is, without doubt, at the forefront of Italian gastronomy and tourism, and that wonderful niche market gastronomic tourism. With cities like Bologna, Parma, Modena, and of course Rimini – each with their particular traditions and culinary specialities.

Coldiretti, an official organisation promoting the interests of the agricultural sector have issued a report on Gastronomy and Tourism in Emilia Romagana suggesting that the market has a value of up to 500 million euro per year!

It makes sense when you think of some of the typical products on offer in the region, ranging from traditional pasta like tortellini or strozzapreti, through to the various meat products like prosciutto crudo (notably in Parma, but wonderful throughout the region), and wines like the romagnolo sangiovese, or the Emilian lambrusco.

One of the reasons people return to Rimini is the quality of food on offer. You can have a beach holiday in lots of different places, but you can only eat and drink this well in a few places!
